Great tasting value white wine! A great balance of fruit and acidity. Got it at In Fine Spirits here in Chicago for $11.99. It is a nice blend of 80% Roussanne, 20% Grenache and 20% Viogner.

Charamba Douro 2005 Aveleda
My best value wine ever. Hands down this $5.99 wine is great. Aveleda is known for the great value vinho verde. Well they knock a home run for red wine. Good balance flavor for a bargain wine. Usually, the very inexpensive wines have some pronounced flaws. This doesn’t. I hope they don’t raise the price of this. I give credit to Amy for finding this wine at Binny’s in Chicago. She also noticed that it is the same folks who make the great white wine in Portugal. Cheers!

Junehog 2008 White
I am a big fan of Tad Seetstedt´s wines. I have had the very classy Pinot Noir and Muscat. With fish on the griddle, I thought the Junehog white wine would fill the bill. Yup, this is a very good pairing with white fish. Good aroma and Tad’s classic balanced rich taste. Kudos to Tad on this great tasting wine.

A Mano 2006 Primitivo, Puglia IGT
Went to Andersonville Wine and Spirits and picked up this great value wine for $7.99. That was a very good deal. This very good indeed. A rich dark berry wine with plenty of flavor for days. I don’t think this wine will last too long at this price value.

Chinon Rouge “Les Chiens-Chiens” 2005 Domaine de la Noblaie
This is a very rich cabernet franc. The best I have had. Big flavor with rich fruit, spice and sophistication. Maybe I have not been drinking decent cabernet franc wine in the past. I find them usually not very interesting. You won’t find that problem here. Here is to my favorite Cabernet Franc!

Aranleon Crianza 2004 Utiel- Requena
This is a very big dark fruit wine made of 40% Tempranillo, 40% Bobal, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. You have to let this decanter at least an hour! Intense color and flavors! We really enjoyed it with swiss cheese. This is the kind of wine that needs something like swiss cheese because of its heavy character. Get it at In Fine Spirits Wine Shop in Chicago.

Boutari Moscholfilero 2007
Boutari Moscholfilero 2007 is the wine of the day. A great white wine from Greece. Beautiful floral aroma and great fruit. We both really like this. Kind of makes today’s gray day look a bit sunnier! Our first Greek wine is a winner. Keep this on your short list if you are looking for a refreshing white wine! Kudos to Andersonville Wines and Spirits for the recommendation!
From the importer Terlato Wines:
Boutari Moschofilero (mo-sko-feel-ero) is a premium white wine made from 100% Moschofilero grapes grown in high elevation vineyards in the AOC region of Mantinia in the Peloponnese.

Sancerre Blanc “Les Boucauds” 2007 Claude Riffault
I had been waiting a long time to try a white wine from the French Sancerre growing region. Usually the price point is above my budget but Andersonville Wine and Spirits has had it on sale for around $14.95. Domaine Claude Riffault is a family run business that has switched to organic farming methods. This is a keeper at this price. Plenty of fruit flavor with the balance of a very good wine. High five on this one! Andersonville Wine and Spirits have some great values in the store.
From Jon David Wines:
100% Sauvignon Blanc from limestone soils on hillsides. Hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain the fruit and freshness of the wine. Produced from 30-to-40-year-old vines.

Leonildo Pieropan Soave Classico 2007
Amy and I like to eat fish at least once a week. The wine experts at Andersonville Wine and Spirits, here in Chicago, offered a very good selection that went well with our tilapia dinner. The Leonildo Pieropan Soave Classico 2007 was built to order. This was the first Soave Classico we have tasted. Good fruit and balance worked well with the fish and did not overshadow it. This is on my short list of white wines that really complement simple fish dinners.

Mulinea Nero d’Avola Sicilia Curatolo 2007
I usually stop going to my favorite wine shops for 3 week stretches so that I get surprised with some new wines on the revisit. On my recent visit back to In Fine Spirits, I was greeted by some great white wines and a couple of great value reds. Mulinea is a great value wine from Sicily. Good dark fruit with a great finish. A good drinking wine that is fine on its own. I went to the website of the importer Ionia Atlantic Imports but found only a reference that this is a new wine import and more info on the way. Looking at the list of wines they import, I noticed some new sicilian reds that I noticed the In Fine Spirits 13$ and up shelves. Hmmmm. After tasting the Mulinea, I imagine I will be tasting some more from that region!
